BEIJING (AP) - Rescuers are using bulldozers and other heavy machinery to search for survivors buried under a landslide that trapped at least 107 people in rain-hit southwestern China.
But Tian Maosheng, an official from Guizhou Communist Party Propaganda Department, who is helping with the rescue, says there appears to be little hope for survival, with no word on casualties or survivors by noon Tuesday.
More than 60 residents stranded by the landslide were evacuated Tuesday. Other villagers huddled in tents as rescuers searched for their family members.
Homes were buried when the landslide struck the village of Dazhai in Guizhou province Monday afternoon after days of torrential rains. An official interviewed by state broadcaster CCTV said nearly half a hill had collapsed, engulfing a wide area in soil.

Seymour unveils heavy-duty milling/boring machines
Seymour Engineering has introduced a range of heavy-duty, large-capacity precision CNC milling and boring machines: the F Type (travelling column) and the T Type 3,000mm (travelling table).
The machines can be built with various column heights and longer or shorter rams.An F Type version is currently being built for a customer in Lancashire with the following specification: fabricated bed sections; cast-iron column, ram and saddles; precision linear rails and guides; high-precision ball screws; gearless ram drive to the milling head; X-axis travel 13,000mm; Y-axis travel 3,000mm; Z-axis travel 1,050mm; hydraulic counterbalance to the Y axis; and manual universal milling head with hydraulic draw bar.
The CNC is Siemens 840D SL and servos are from Siemens Sinamics.

Airskates move heavy loads - no floor damage
Installation Service uses a range of airskates to accommodate loads up to 40 tonnes and with these size of loads the typical floor loading when moving on airskates is less than 30 lb/in2.
Due to the improvement in todays flooring standards, the movement of heavy machinery without causing damage to floors, is becoming increasingly difficult.Standard airskates in the range can accommodate loads up to 40 tonnes.
Even with these size of loads the typical floor loading when moving on airskates is less than 30 lb/in2.
We also provide an airskate hire service for anyone wishing to carry out movement of machinery.
Airskates can even be used in clean room environments where cleanliness is paramount.
Airskates operate on a thin film of air, which means when 'floating' no part of the skate is actually touching the floor, so allowing for smooth movement.
With this near friction-free movement, loads on a smooth flat floor only require 1kg of force to move a 1000kg load.
Even out of balance loads cause no problems for airskates as each skate is independently adjustable for loads.
Airskates can simply be connected to a suitable factory air line to carry out moves, or for installations and moves in new buildings, where there is no air supply, a standard road side compressor can be used.
Over many years Airgonomics have been at the forefront of airfilm technology.
If you have any requirements or require any further information regarding airskates, or airfilm equipment then do not hesitate to contact us.

Increase Expected in Heavy Equipment Sales in China
Komatsu, the Japanese heavy equipment maker, said Friday it expected sales in China to rise by half as the country’s 10 percent growth rate drives demand for resources like coal and iron ore. Sales in the year starting April 1 are expected to rise by 40 to 50 percent from the current year, Kazuhiko Iwata, the president of the company’s mining division, said. Mining machinery sales account for about 30 percent of Komatsu’s construction equipment division revenue, which is forecast to be 1.3 trillion yen ($14 billion) this year.

It's the end of the road for Hummer
Detroit, Feb 25: With the collapse of the planned sale deal with a Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer, General Motors may be forced to wipe out the iconic American SUV Hummer.
This comes as a major blow to General Motors Co, which emerged from bankruptcy in Jul 2009.
GM is trying to wash its hands off all its unprofitable businesses so that it can focus on four core brands Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
The company has been on a campaign to sell the Hummer since 2009 and signed a deal with the Chinese company in Oct 2009. The reluctant Chinese regulators have been setting up road blocks for the deal from the beginning.
"We are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed," said John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances.
So, this is the end of the road for America's hulking Sports Utility Vehicle icon Hummer. However, the company will be honouring existing Hummer warranties.
As Chinese regulators rejected a 150 million dollar bid, Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co on Wednesday, Feb 24 announced that it is pulling out of the deal.

Heavy-duty cylinders behind steel forming machines
Heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders designed for working pressures up to 160 bar have been specified for three Trim-and-Curl machines built by Heinrich Georg for the Walsall Wheelbarrow Company
Parker Hannifin MMB heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders are specified for the control systems on three Trim-and-Curl machines built by special purpose machine manufacturers, Heinrich Georg Manufacturing, for the Walsall Wheelbarrow Company. The Walsall Wheelbarrow Company is privately owned and operated by the Thacker family, now one of the UKs foremost wheelbarrow manufacturers and acknowledged as the originator of the wheelbarrow as we know it today.
New tooling, presses and the three Trim-and-Curl machines have been introduced as part of a £250,000 plant and machinery investment programme.
The company's engineers worked closely with designers from Heinrich Georg to produce the 'trim and curl' machines.
The machines produce pans for the company's new market leading professional wheelbarrow ranges - the 85 litre Valiant, the 95 litre Endurance and the 120 litre Invincible - for use in the construction, agricultural, horticultural and DIY market sectors.
These new wheelbarrows have a particularly low centre of balance, coupled with better weight distribution and an improved frame design.
"Our customers want quality, but they want it at the right price', commented Managing Director, Les Thacker.
"We have to make sure that we have the best manufacturing processes in the business.
Heinrich Georg has long been recognised as a premier OEM manufacturer of machines for the world's steel industries, which feature only the best engineered components and systems available.
The Trim-and-Curl machines can each produce up to 500 wheelbarrow pans a day.
The pans are produced from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm steel in the three different depths.
Each machine features four Parker MMB heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders: to control the cutting heads which trim the pans to the correct size; and to control the forming heads which 'roll' the rim of the pan to eliminate the possibility of sharp edges.
Parker Hannifin MMB heavy-duty 'mill' cylinders are designed for working pressures up to 160 bar, in arduous applications such as steel mills where a rugged durable cylinder with a clean external design is required..
